As you know, many Winslow Unified staff have been participating in the #RedForEd movement to exercise their first amendment right, on their own time, regarding education funding in Arizona.
Since that time, various staff have participated in a walk-in, prior to the start of school, or a stand-out, after the end of the school day, to gather and display signage in support of #RedForEd. We anticipate this may occur again on future Wednesdays. The #RedForEd organizers have also discussed the possibility of school walk-outs, or sick-outs, on social media although a particular date has not been identified.
Our district administrators are working closely with the #RedForEd group’s representatives and have been assured that if any walk-out or sick-outs were to be scheduled, the district would be made aware in advance. If a walk-out or sick-out were to occur, we do not anticipate any staff to unexpectedly leave campus during the school day.
Winslow Unified does have a plan in place.
District administration has been preparing for the resounding “what if” of having to close schools due to low staffing levels. Our plans are very fluid, however, if we have too few staff members to safely conduct classes, we may be forced to close schools. if this happens, we will plan to still serve breakfast and lunch at the following sites: Bonnie Brennan, Jefferson, and Winslow High School. More information would be made available if the time comes.
We will communicate with you.
Please take this opportunity to update your emergency contact information with the front office at your child’s school to be sure you receive updates from us. In the event that we are unable to hold school, parents and guardians will receive a phone call and/or email with information about a school closure. This information will also be shared on social media.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
