Reflecting on Week #1 of COVID-19 closures

Good evening Winslow Unified Families and Staff!

We just finished our first ever week of quarantine. I am reflecting on all the dedication that our staff showed in getting prepared to take care of our students. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for their time and effort.

We had people during Spring Break writing Summer Food Plans for Arizona Department of Ed. so we could hit the ground running Monday morning. Our Food Service people hit many home runs and I know things will keep getting better and better. We are looking to extend the times of breakfast/lunch to go from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Next week there will also be a few stops that are combined so we can add 2 more. The new stops will be the College View Apartments and the Winslow Crossings area. Stay tuned. We cannot start until approved by ADE.

Academically, packets will be ready to go Monday. Yes, staff worked diligently and met my goal easily by the 2nd week. I truly believe that when I notified them during Spring Break, they began planning. It's what Teachers do! Yes, I'm super proud of their hard work. These packets will be handed out at the food service stops. They do NOT need to be returned to us, but if you would like, we'll take them. We cannot take grades because there is no way we can reach EVERYONE equitably.

Please check your child's school website often. If you cannot make it to pick up a hard copy packet, a digital copy is online and can be downloaded if you have internet. On top of that, several teachers have gone totally wild in the digital area! Some are making videos, some are creating websites, some will be learning to teach online!! So many wonderful events are happening in the very difficult situation.

Lastly, we don't know where this is going, how long this will last. I don't know what the State Board of Education is wanting from Seniors at this point. We will keep everyone in the loop. I will say that our connecting states of California, Colorado, and New Mexico have shut school down for the year plus many others further away.

I just ask for your patience and understanding as we maneuver through this pandemic and its ramifications. We are really trying. We really miss our students. We all want everyone safe and healthy. So please, please stay home.

With deep appreciation for this wonderful community,
Cyndie Mattox
