Superintendent's Message

On behalf of the Governing Board, and staff, I welcome you to Winslow Unified School District #1  - “Home of the Bulldogs”

WUSD #1 is a great place for students to learn and grow.  As you read more about us on this website, you will see what makes our district special.  With a new leadership team in place, we are focused on family and community, and our vision to promote student success and happiness.  WUSD #1 is dedicated to providing a sound education for all of our students.  We expect high standards, demand good discipline, and seek to stretch everyone to their full potential by providing the necessary support to do so.  I am incredibly honored to be the new Superintendent of Winslow Unified School District #1.  I look forward to working with each and every one of you to ensure that all of our students have unlimited opportunities to choose their future, whether it be here in Winslow or in the global economy.  As Superintendent, it is a privilege to be serving in the Winslow School District; I am deeply rooted in a tradition of fairness, hard work, and openness.  I am available to discuss any concerns that students, parents, or community members may have.

As many of you know, I am a “continual growth” kind of person.  Each and every year, we need to become better at what we do and expand the opportunities provided to our students.  I believe that in order for schools to improve, we need to have a strong foundation in place from which to build.  I will strive to establish a district culture and climate, which is conducive to a positive learning environment.  Using research based methods to improve our instruction, while trying to make school an engaging, safe place for our students is a continual process.

The key thing I wish to provide as the superintendent is a district office that provides great customer service to our five schools for our students, parents, and community members.  We will do our best to provide: high quality instruction; fair discipline; skilled teachers who know students’ dreams, needs and strengths and provide them with the best education possible; families and community members engaged and connected with schools to help students develop.

I plan to listen, learn, and observe as we move forward I intend to keep asking: What is working for WUSD? What should we continue doing that is helping our students to achieve? What is getting in the way of our students’ success? Is there anything we should stop doing of change?  How do we get ideas and cooperation from all of our stakeholders?

School districts are obviously not a one-person operation.  I am open to consider ideas or suggestions from the community.  I look forward to working with the Governing Board and having conversations that will help our district’s strategic planning process, so we can continue to pursue excellence.  School districts will always have challenges, both small and large.  But districts like WUSD #1 who are fortunate enough to have quality employees and wonderful children will handle challenges with professionalism, become stronger for doing so, and continue to deliver an outstanding education that remains true to local values and beliefs.

Again, it is a pleasure to serve as Superintendent.  If you have any questions or comments about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I encourage you to visit our website often for upcoming events and information.
